Sizzling Hot Book Reviews: Dance of the Gods by Ann Mayburn

Carmella Ramirez has been through some tough times, but nothing compares to her current situation. She hasda a succubus using her body to entice mean and lead them to their death.
Locked in a demonic curse, Carmella Ramirez has lost the will to love. Once she was the star of the Ramirez Samba School and lived a charmed life. Now, thanks to bitchery and voodoo, she's the School's seamstress and living in the ghetto. At night, a succubus overtakes Carmella's body and uses her to lure men to their death. As the corpses pile up, those controlling Carmella plan to sacrifice her to their demonic God and blame her for all the men the succubus killed.
Her only hope is Sean Kalmus- a world famous musician and warrior of the Celtic God of Music, Maponus. Sean is in Brazil to DJ for the Ramirez School at this year's Carnival. Maponus orders Sean to find and rescue Carmella, who is Sean's Comhcheol- the perfect harmony to his soul's melody.
With Sean's help, Carmella will have to call on her strength, his magic and their love to break herself free before she becomes Brazil's most notorious serial killer.
Sean Kalmus is a world famous DJ and a warrior for the Celtic God, Maponus. Maponus has sent Sean on a mission to rescue Carmella, even though she doesn?t know she is in need of rescue. Sean knows Carmella is his soul mate the first moment he sees her.

Carmella has basically been demoted at work from dancer to seamstress. She has many self confidence issues thanks to the succubus and other spells that have been placed upon her. Seeing Sean for the first time she is drawn to him like she has never been drawn to another.

Once Sean figures out what is possessing Carmella he quickly disposes of it and then they have to figure out who is called this succubus and put the spells on Carmella and get rid of them as well.

I would have liked more development of the characters in Dance of the Gods. Carmella goes from a very week, self-loathing character to a very strong, proud, confident character very quickly. While we know a lot of this is the succubus and other spells, it would have been nice to have more background to show Carmella as this confident proud woman first to show the progressions she has taken. Sean is a good character, but again, we don?t find out a lot about him.

Other than the character development, I really liked Dance of the Gods. Dance of the Gods was unique enough to hold my interest; with just a touch of romance, mystery, paranormal all intermingled. Dance of the Gods uses modern day activities but brings in the help of ancient mythology and past Gods. Ann Mayburn weaves a fantastic tale that grabbed me from the beginning and kept me interested throughout. I would recommend Dance of the Gods to anyone that enjoys the paranormal with a touch or sensual romance. Dance of The Gods stands independently from the first book in the Chosen by the Gods series, Blessed.
