Customer service is number 1 - Free Business Forum UK

Good customer service does go a long way, especially for establishing a great first impression. In most businesses it's the deciding factor on whether that person comes back or recommend your business to others. But it's important to know that "the customer is always right" is a rule of thumb to follow, but not to take as business dogma. In certain businesses customers can make your daily work experience a living nightmare. New business owners in many internet related businesses or consultancies should not take that rule to heart or otherwise it could end up costing them time wasted and little money made. I'm referring to problem customers, such as those who become extremely complacent, decide to change the direction of a project in the middle of it, or expect additions without paying the extra money. In some cases, it's in your best interest to fire a customer. This obviously doesn't apply to the local coffee shop or brick and mortar food mart, but for people like freelancers and consultants, know when to fire a customer. The word NO can be your best asset when dealing with bad or rude clients. I have had to stop working with some customers in my former web design business after they became extremely difficult and time consuming. Refer them to another related business or person who might be able to do the work for them. The customer's always right only to a certain point.
